Handling Images and Tables in Your EPUB Conversion

Handling Images and Tables in Your EPUB Conversion

When preparing your document for EPUB conversion, it's important to understand how EPUBConvert.com handles images and tables. This guide will help you optimize your document for the best possible results.

Images in Your EPUB

Cover Image

Our converter fully supports cover images for your e-book:

  • Upload a high-quality cover image separately from your main document.
  • Recommended size: at least 1600 x 2400 pixels.
  • File format: JPG or PNG.
  • Your cover image will be optimized and included in the final EPUB file.

Images Within the Text

Currently, our converter focuses on text content and doesn't process images within the main document. Here's what you need to know:

  • Images embedded in your Word document won't be included in the final EPUB.
  • Consider removing inline images from your document before conversion.
  • For image-heavy books, you may need to use a different tool or manual EPUB creation process.

Alternative Approaches for Images

If your book requires images within the text:

  1. Placeholder Text: Replace images with descriptive placeholder text. For example: [Image: A red apple on a wooden table]
  2. Separate Image File: Keep a separate file with all your images, numbered to correspond with the placeholders in your text.
  3. Post-Conversion Addition: After converting to EPUB, you can manually add images using an EPUB editor.

Handling Tables

Our current conversion process doesn't have specific handling for tables. Here's how to approach tables in your document:

Simple Tables

For simple tables:

  • Keep them in your document as is.
  • They may convert to plain text, potentially losing formatting but retaining information.

Complex Tables

For complex tables or those crucial to your content:

  1. Convert to Images: Save complex tables as images and handle them as described in the images section above.
  2. Simplify: Break down complex tables into simpler formats that are more likely to convert cleanly to text.
  3. Use Lists: Consider converting table data into nested lists, which are more likely to maintain structure during conversion.

Alternative for Table-Heavy Content

If your document relies heavily on complex tables:

  • Consider using a specialized EPUB creation tool for your project.
  • Or, convert tables to images and add them manually to the EPUB file after initial conversion.

Best Practices for Text-Focused Conversion

To get the best results with EPUBConvert.com:

  1. Focus on text content.
  2. Remove or replace inline images with descriptive text.
  3. Simplify tables where possible.
  4. Use clear headings and structure in your document.
  5. Review your EPUB after conversion to ensure all content is present and readable.
